Join the revival of an ancient Gaelic clan.

Your membership helps to fund the clan's revival — the summer festivals at Newhall, the preservation of one of Ireland's oldest Gaelic lineages, academic and heritage research, and the books and publications that will bring the ancient Irish Gaelic story to new generations.

This is not a subscription. It is an act of cultural stewardship — a commitment to keep alive something ancient and irreplaceable that was almost lost to history.

The revival was begun in the memory of the Chief’s son Ronan. Maria has told the founding story in her own words.

Membership of Clan Ó Comáin is a contribution to a wider revival — of Gaelic Ireland, of Brehon law, of the clan tradition itself.
The work is at depth: language, lineage, memory, place. A return to what was nearly lost.

A place in the clan, kept for life

Three generations
remembered

The most enduring Irish heirloom there is. Your place in Clan Ó Comáin becomes yours for life — and, in time, inherited by your children in their own right. Their parents' names remain on the certificate in perpetuity, honoured always.

One moment of joining. Three generations carried by a single heraldic instrument.

The certificate, issued once

A hand-signed heraldic instrument bearing your name as primary grantee, each family member named below in letters patent tradition, a dedication line honouring a forebear of your choosing, and the inheritance clause by which your children shall continue the membership in their own right. One cert. One clan. One family, three generations deep.

"A name entered in the Register of Clan Ó Comáin is a name entered in the history of Gaelic Ireland."

A word from the Chief

"The clan was nearly lost to history — dispersed by conquest, famine and the long silence of the Penal years. Every member who joins today is an act of defiance against that erasure. You are not subscribing to a service. You are answering a call that has waited a very long time."

Year One of the Revival

Join now, and carry Founder since 2026 for life.

Members who join in the first year of the revival are recorded in the clan Register as Founders of the Revival — a distinction that appears on your certificate as a gold seal, stays with your record for the lifetime of the clan, and can only be earned this year. History remembers who was there at the beginning.

Wondering whether the clan is for you?

The bond is what matters, not the bloodline. All who answer the call are welcome.

This is not a modern softening of an ancient idea — it is a return to one. The Gaelic clan was never purely a matter of blood. Every clan kept its céile — sworn clients who pledged service to the chief — and its muintir, the wider household of those who lived under his protection. Foster-bonds, surety-bonds, and chosen allegiance were all recognised ways of belonging. A man's place in a clan could be earned as well as inherited, and the chief's word was what made it real.

That older way is the way Clan Ó Comáin welcomes its members today. All are entered into the same Register, signed by the same Chief, recognised by the same Council. What matters is the bond you choose to make.

Common questions

Everything you need to know

Do I need to have an Irish surname to join?
No. Clan Ó Comáin is open to all who love Ireland and its ancient Gaelic culture — whatever name you carry. In Brehon law, clans always admitted members through shared values and commitment, not bloodline alone.
What does the physical certificate look like?
The certificate is a formal document on high-quality stock, bearing the clan arms and signed by the Chief. It is a keepsake document designed to be framed and displayed.
When are the summer festivals at Newhall?
Dates are announced to registered members first, ahead of any public announcement. Events take place at Newhall Estate and Cahercommane in the Burren — the clan's ancestral capital in County Clare.
What does family membership cover?
Family membership covers two named adults and all children under 18. Both adults are named on the certificate and the clan register. Children are included automatically and inherit the family's membership status.
Can I upgrade my membership tier later?
Yes. You can request an upgrade at any time from your membership area — the office will follow up. Life membership can be requested the same way by existing annual members.
What is the Guardian's Dinner at Newhall House?
An annual dinner held at Newhall House — the seat of the Chief — for Guardian, Steward and Life members of the clan. Hosted by the Chief and members of the Privy Council. Numbers are strictly limited by the capacity of the house. As is customary at private clan functions, members contribute to the cost of the evening.
Is payment secure?
Payment is processed via Stripe — the industry standard for secure online payments, used by millions of organisations worldwide. Your card details are never stored by the clan.
What if I want to cancel?
Annual memberships can be cancelled at any time before renewal. There are no penalties and no questions asked. Life memberships are non-refundable by their nature — they are a permanent commitment.
