How the Platform is operated, and the editorial position on heritage scholarship.
The Clan Ó Comáin website and membership platform at ocomain.org is operated by Moohane LLC, a private limited liability company organised under the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, with principal address at 30 N Gould St, Ste 36809, Sheridan, WY 82801.
Moohane LLC operates the Platform under a brand and heritage licence from the Chief of Clan Ó Comáin. The Operator is responsible for the technology, the membership infrastructure, the consumer-facing legal arrangements, and the day-to-day running of the Platform. The Chief, the Privy Council, and the wider clan community are not parties to the commercial arrangements and are not legally responsible for them.
Physical events held at Newhall House, County Clare — clan festivals, the Guardians' dinner, on-site gatherings — are organised separately by the relevant Irish entity and are not commercial activities of Moohane LLC. Where applicable, those events have their own booking and payment arrangements distinct from the membership platform.
The historical, genealogical, archaeological, and DNA content on this site — the Pedigree, Heartlands, Surname Variants, Crest, Patrons, and Council pages — represents the clan's heritage as we and our cited scholars read the surviving evidence. Every substantive claim is traceable to a named source: medieval manuscript pedigrees (the Book of Lecan, the Book of Leinster), royal annals (the Annals of Inisfallen, the Annals of Ulster), modern scholarship (Pender on the Déisi genealogies, Cotter on Cahercommane, Gibson on the Tulach Commáin chiefdom, MacLysaght on the Munster Comyn-anglicisation, Hencken on the Harvard excavations), and contemporary Y-DNA evidence.
This is presented as an evidenced reading rather than a settled one. We distinguish throughout between what is firmly documented, what is plausibly inferred from the documentary and archaeological record, and what remains an open scholarly question. Reasonable scholars may differ on individual points, and we welcome correspondence from researchers — write to clan@ocomain.org.
Membership of Clan Ó Comáin is offered as a contribution to a heritage and cultural revival project. It is not a determination of legal descent, a grant of any title or peerage, a credentialled status, or a guarantee of recognition by the Office of the Chief Herald of Ireland, Clans of Ireland, or any other body.
Clan Ó Comáin was officially recognised by Clans of Ireland — Finte na hÉireann, the national body for Irish clan recognition — in 2025. The clan's petition for a new grant of arms is pending application before the Office of the Chief Herald of Ireland.
For all enquiries, write to clan@ocomain.org. The Office of the Private Secretary to the Chief is the principal channel for member correspondence.
